General Specifications

Redland Clay Tile is part of the Redland PLC group out of the UK, the largest tile manufacturer in the world.

The company has over 200 plants in 32 different countries throughout the world. Redland is also the leader for its technological expertise in the manufacturing of its tiles.

Redland Clay Tile is the only tile manufacturer that still does the old world kiln fired process, which makes for very unique colors and true authentic fire flashes.
 
Redland Clay Tile recaptures the true essence of 100% authentic clay tile with pristine to rugged looks in six different sizes and shapes.
    
Mission is the traditional two piece cap and pan tile. The size for this tile is 20" in length. The Baja Mission tile is also a two piece tile, but measures only 17" in length. In addition to all the colors that mission tile comes in, the Baja Mission also comes in Sandcast Series. The Sandcast Series is a mud washed tile with a thumb butted end.

Redland also offers a one piece "S" tile. It comes in all our standard colors from Terra Cotta to our true fire flashed colors.

We have recently added a new tile called Napa "S". This smaller "S" tile comes in the Terra Cotta Blend and the Old Sedona Blend.

Specialty Products

Our Specialty products, Roman tile and Euro-Baja tile, are a European style tile available in all our standard colors. These two products offer the architect and owner a different appearance to the standard products available in the market place.

A variegated spectrum of Terra Cotta, Peach and Buff tones unlike any others in the world. General Specifications

"S" Tile, 2PC. Mission & Baja Mission

Dimensions:
"S" Tile: Approximately 13" wide x 18" long. Approximately 88 pcs. per square.
2pc. Mission: Approximately 7"-8 1/2" tapered x 20" long. Approximately 154 pcs per square.
Baja Mission: Approximately 6"-7" tapered x 17 1/2" long. Approximately 220 pcs. per square.
  

Weight:
"S" Tile: Approximately 888 lbs. per square
2pc. Mission: Approximately 1,000 lbs. per square.  Baja Mission: Approximately 1,000 lbs. per square.

Fire Rating: Standard Class "A"

Sheathing: Solid sheathing must be structurally sufficient to support the load and must be at least 1/2" thick.

Minimum Pitch: Pitches less than 3:12 shall be used only as decorative material and must be applied over a complying roof covering approved by the building code having jurisdiction.

Underlayment: For pitches 3:12 and above underlayment of not less than two layers of type 15# felt or one layer of type 30# felt shall be applied in accordance with code requirements. A 1" x 2" nominal wood strip must be placed at the eave and secured with a 5-penny corrosion-resistant nail to properly elevate the first course when clay bird stops are not used.
  
Tile Lay Out:
"S" Tile: Lay out roof on 11" centers with a maximum of 15" exposure.
2pc. Mission: Lay out roof on 11" centers with a maximum of 17" exposure.
Baja Mission: Lay out roof on 9" centers with a maximum of 14 1/2" exposure.

NOTE: Special effects can be achieved by randomly combining varied exposure and by adding boosters or mudding the cover tile in field area.

Fastening: For pitches up to 7:12 each tile must be fastened with one No. 11 gauge corrosion-resistant nail of sufficient length to penetrate 3/4" into the sheathing or through the thickness of the sheathing, whichever is less. Other approved tile tie fastening systems may be used as alternatives. For pitches over 7:12 each tile must be installed as described above, in addition each tile must be fastened with a tile lock assembly recognized in ICBO Report No. 3362 or equal.

Trim Tile: All hip, ridge and rake tiles shall be nailed and set in cement mortar or plastic roof cement.

Special Note:
All Redland Clay Tile colors and blends have natural color variations due to the inherent characteristics of the raw materials used. To avoid excess color patterning, checker boarding, or stair stepping, the installer should periodically check the overall roof color from ground level at a reasonable distance.
